Junior Advocacy Assistant - Paid Internship

The Junior Advocacy Assistant will support the Global Advocacy Team of Fairtrade International, which currently comprises two persons (the Director of Global Advocacy and the Senior Advocacy Manager). She/he/they will be based in the office of Fairtrade Belgium (together with the Director of Global Advocacy) and will also work closely with Fairtrade Belgium Head of Advocacy.


The Junior Advocacy Assistant, depending on her/his/their expertise and experience:

  • Helps to conduct research (on topics related to trade agreements, gender equality, protection of the environment, agroecology, etc.) and drafting of policy positions (on those topics).
  • Supports the organization of events (webinars, meetings, conferences), both in relation to contents and logistics.
  • Drafts internal newsletters and articles.
  • Takes part in conferences and shares notes, summarizes articles and other relevant publications.
  • Helps with administrative tasks when needed


Professional experience:

  • University degree in any of those fields: economics, political sciences, human rights, environment, law or comparable qualifications.
  • At least 6 months of work experience (including as a volunteer) in the field of advocacy/policy/project management.

  • Fluent English, both spoken and written. Other languages are an additional advantage (in particular Spanish).


  • This is a full-time position.
  • 6 months internship contract  (CIP - Convention d’immersion professionelle)
  • Workplace : the Fairtrade Belgium office (at least twice a week).
  • The applicant cannot be a student at the time of applying for this position.
  • The internship cannot be preparation for practising a liberal profession, subject to deontology, such as lawyer or auditor.
  • 21 days of holidays per year pro-rata
  • International Business travel may be required (but less than 10% of the time)
  • Salary: 1.600,00 € brute
  • Period: ideally, the contract would start May/June and end at the end of December 2024.
